Here’s a diorama of my favourite scene from “Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens” in 1/35: Rey sitting in front of her AT-AT home, playing with the rebel pilot helmet.
I think it’s a beautiful scene, just like the one in Episode IV where Luke is watching the twin sunset.

Rey is based on a 3D-printed figure by Tonghui Li (Shapeways username: xiaoxunyue). You can check out his shop here (caution, some of his designs are NSFW!).

Clothes were sculpted with filler, the cleavage was, well, sanded back to more realistic proportions. I painted the figure with Revell and Tamiya colours/washes.

The foot of the AT-AT is completely scratchbuilt. This was my first attempt at CAD and 3D printing, so a lot of swearing was involved.
The sections were designed in FreeCAD and printed out via Shapeways. For the “nails” and the greeblies I chose the expensive “Ultra Frosted Detail” printing mode (highly recommended!). You can download the files for free here (ZIP-file).

The base was constructed from a piece of MDF covered with Fimo Air. After letting it dry for several days a thin layer of Tamiya Grit Effect Light Sand was applied.
The basecoat is Valejo Pale Sand mixed with Tamiya Deck Tan XF-78. It was dirtied down with washes (Tamiya XF-59 and XF-64) und dry brushed (Valejo Pale Sand und Tamiya XF-59).

I spent an absurd amount of time on the helmet, probably more than on the whole AT-AT foot! Since I wasn’t able to find a commercial Rebel Pilot Helmet in 1/35 I decided the build one from scratch, again with FreeCAD and a lot of trial and error.
The custom decals were created from photos of a replica helmet by Anovos. You can download a PDF here.
